Rajasthan is moving at a lightening speed to be able to light up every corner of the state by 2008. Many major power projects have either already been set up or are in the pipeline, and would soon make Rajasthan, a power surplus state.
Taking the big leap from a power deficient state to a power surplus state, Rajasthan has committed itself to generating surplus quality power at an affordable price. Two of the state's power plants, Suratgarh and Kota Super Thermal Power Stations (TPS), are ranked amongst the best power plants in the country and have received meritorious productivity awards regularly, from the Ministry of Power, Government of India. Hon'ble Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh had presented an Award to Suratgarh Super Thermal Station for its meritorious performance at national level for the year 2005-06 on 21 March, 2007.
Besides being efficient power producers, the two power stations, also take adequate measures to control pollution and ensure atmospheric emissions within the prescribed limits at these stations.

Recently Commissioned In the year 2007, four new power units have been commissioned at Giral and Dholpur that would add as much as 345 MW to the state's power generation capacity. The first unit of 125 MW of Giral Lignite TPS is the first lignite based power project in Rajasthan, located in the Barmer District. The estimated cost of this unit is Rs.7 billion.
Under Construction Six more units are also under construction that would give 1180 MW to the State’s power supply. Construction work on the following projects is in progress:

The state no doubt, is well on its way to become not just self-reliant, but a power surplus state by the end of next year. This would be a giant step towards the socio-economic development of Rajasthan, preparing strong grounds for further investment in the state.
