"It
is my conviction that no state can
move rapidly on the path of development
unless it creates a strong environment
for private-sector participation."
Ms. Vasundhara Raje, Chief
Minister Rajasthan
|

Rajasthan seems to live these words-the
business-enabling environment, pro-active
governance, spirit of transparency,
accountability, partnership have all
resulted in companies choosing the State
again and again.
The launch of second global operation
of Genpact, a pioneer and global leader
in high-quality Business Services and
Technology Solutions, in Jaipur, clearly
proves this.
Ms.
Vasundhara Raje, Hon'ble Chief Minister
of Rajasthan formally launched the centre
at the State capital on 16th of August
2006. Spread over 2.84 acres, and located
on the fast developing, Jawaharlal Nehru
Marg, Jaipur, this is Genpact's tenth
operations centre in the country, which
has been set up with an investment of
over Rs.750 million.
The new facility will seat over 1300
associates who will provide diverse
specialized services to the Banking,
Insurance, Healthcare and Manufacturing
sectors in areas of accounting, accounts
receivables, order to cash cycle and
customer service and technical support
to Genpact customers in the USA, UK,
Australia & various other European
countries.
Genpact, formerly GE Capital International
Services, was among the first to set
up its BPO operations in the State of
Rajasthan in Jaipur from as early as
2002. Today, the Jaipur centre alone
employs close to 2000 people who service
Genpact customers across the globe.

the company. Genpact, Jaipur will now
be looking to increase its employee
strength to 3000 by year 2007.

Mr. Pramod Bhasin, President & CEO,
Genpact said that “We would like
to express gratitude to the Government

| Mr.
Bhasin added, “With strong infrastructure
and favourable government policies,
we see Rajasthan providing a huge opportunity
for the Indian BPO/ ITES sector. We
are also exploring the option of setting
up an IT SEZ in Jaipur and are in consultations
with the State Government.”
Genpact is actively setting up Career
Desks at leading colleges in the State,
including Kanoria College, Maharani
College and Commerce College, to advise
students on their careers. The company
is also working with government nodal
agencies like RIICO and STPI to leverage
their incubation centres in smaller
towns like Jodhpur to offer similar
training programs and Career Desks.
These programs are helping students
in the State develop the necessary skills
required by BPOs today like Genpact.

With the
metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai
and Bangalore having already
exhausted their inexpensive
technical talent, more and more
BPO/ITES companies are shifting
their new and existing operations
to smaller cities. With the
rising competition, the outsourcing
industry is now eyeing the less
congested locales like Jaipur,
Cochin and Pune that are capable
of offering financial incentives
to business through their low-cost
tech prowess.
Rajasthan, with a peaceful industrial
environment, tourism, a stable
government coupled with vast
pool of English speaking population
offers ideal conditions to invest
and set up BPO units in the
State. It has great potential
to emerge as an important destination
for BPO industry.
It made a noteworthy start by
attracting GE in the IT and
IT enabled services sector.
This has put the State in the
zone of consideration for other
ITES companies and more and
more companies are looking at
Rajasthan as the next stop for
BPO Units.
To give further boost to this
sector, efforts are being made
to develop the specific infrastructure
essential for the BPO units
at Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur.
A recent NASSCOM-KPMG report
on Jaipur as destination for
BPO units had prescribed "an
attitudinal change to gain greater
acceptance of the ITES-BPO culture."
It had also said that Jaipur
has optical fibre cables and
satellite connectivity of over
163 mbps.
Jaipur, with its proximity to
Delhi, excellent living conditions
and quality education institutions
provides ample opportunity to
establish BPO industry. The
Government is also considering
developing Jaipur as the 'Knowledge
City' with private sector participation.
