Overview 
As per the recent census done in 2001, the state has recorded literacy rate of 61.03 percent, which is 22.5 percent higher than previous census in 1991. The State is listed at 7th position among other states and Union Territories of the country. In recent times, the education scenario of Rajasthan has changed and cities like Kota, Jaipur and Pilani have made their presence felt on education landscape of India.

The  higher education in Rajasthan has well been taken care of by various universities spread across the length and breadth of Rajasthan. The table below provides no. of institutes and intake capacity for various disciplines:

Policy/ Incentives/ Govt. Initiatives

  • Provisions have been made to allot 10 acres of land, free of cost, to the private     investor for setting up a polytechnic college in lagging districts.
  • Free buildings will be provided if the private investor prefers to establish     Women Polytechnic in the lagging district.
  • Udyog Sansthan Sahabhagita Yojana for private parties to run second shift in     existing government ITIs.
  • Scheme for establishing engineering college under PPP mode in 18 districts where facility of engineering college is not available, with provision of providing     10 acres of land free of cost.
  • Scheme for adoption of ITIs by private sector
