Market Overview
Rajasthan is the largest producer of cement in India. With a capacity of over 13 million tonnes per annum, Rajasthan accounts for over 15% of India's cement production. The cement industry in Rajasthan is witnessing significant growth in recent years. Fresh capacity aggregating over 10 MMTPA is under various stages of implementation. With the domestic demand for cement expected to grow at 8-9 per cent annually.

Various incentives/concessions are available to promote industrial ventures in this sector:

    • Remission of Stamp Duty on sale and purchase of land and properties in cement
    • Remission of Electricity Duty for 7 years
    • Remission  from Land Tax;
    • Set off of Sales Tax on Capital Goods
    • Set off of Entry Tax on raw materials and capital goods
    • Exemption of Mandi Tax for 7 years
    • Interest subsidy of 5% (6% for SC/ST)
    • Wage subsidy as per Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme 2010

 Opportunities

  • Under affordable Housing Policy, 2009 a target of constructing 5 lakh houses has been fixed during a period of 5 years.
  • Under Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP) Phase I large amount of construction activity is targeted which will boost the cement industry a lot.
  • In the annual plan of 2011-2012 the size of the fund is proposed to be Rs.400 crore, which will boost the construction activity henceforth and will help in raising the demand of cement industry.
  • Under state road policy large amount of rural and urban road construction has been encouraged and in its annual plan of 2011-2012 large investment in the road sector has been proposed.

Strengths

  • Presence of large limestone reserves, estimated to be over 2.5 billion tonnes. MS grade limestone of Jaisalmer district is supplied to various steel plants of the country.
