Textile is an important industry in Rajasthan, accounting for nearly 20 per cent of the investment made in the State. Rajasthan contributes over 7.5 per cent of India's production of cotton and blended yarn (235,000 tonnes in 2002-03) and over 5 per cent of fabrics (60 million sq meters).
Rajasthan has leading position in spinning of polyester viscose yarn & synthetic suiting (at Bhilwara) and processing, printing & dyeing of low cost, low weight fabric (at Pali, Balotra, Sanganer and Bagru). Besides, Jaipur is also a well-known centre for manufacturing garments primarily for exports. Some knitting units are in process of setting up their ventures at Neemrana.
Abundant availability of raw material, availability of trained labour and a network of backward and forward linkages make Rajasthan an attractive location for textile industry.
A new garment cluster is being developed at Pathredi, near Bhiwadi in the National Capital Region. Two integrated textile parks are being developed at Silora (Kishangarh).
